Alitalia to look to southeast for new airline partner
Italian airline Alitalia has signaled its interest in seeking a partner from southeast Asia if its main shareholder Air France-KLM decides not to pump more cash into the airline later this week.
Air France-KLM, which holds a 25% stake in the ailing Alitalia, is not expected to participate in the Italian airline’s €300 million cash call.
Unless it agrees to stump up additional cash by Thursday, its stake will automatically fall to between 7% and 11%.
Italy’s transport minister Maurizio Lupi told Reuters today if that happened the airline would look for a partner in southeast asia.
