Robotics, Sci-Fi ambiance in CHINA
With the largest tourism economy in the world, and with more than 70 million nationals travelling overseas each year, China has been adopting ever more innovative ways of keeping would-be globetrotters in the country.
True to form, China’s latest wacky hotel concept, the Pengheng Space Capsules Hotel, is no exception.
Located in the Bao’an District of Shenzhen, this newly opened ‘capsule’ hotel recreates the feeling of sleeping in a spaceship, using minimalist décor, futuristic styling and blue-lit individual guest pods.
For the full orbital experience, the resort even boasts a staff made primarily of robots. Everyone from the waiter serving your coffee to the doorman and receptionist are mechanical, giving the hotel a distinctly sci-fi feel.
The accommodation also features a communal lounge area adorned with tablet devices, a computer bank and a laundry room. There’s even a skeleton staff of human employees, for when dealing with robots becomes a little too impersonal.
The Pengheng Space Capsules Hotel is the latest in a long line of mind-boggling hotel designs to come out of China.
Earlier this year, we reported on the development of the US $490 million Shimao Wonderland InterContinental, a hotel currently under construction in an abandoned, flooded quarry at the base of China’s Tianmenshan Mountain, and back in July the country completed the world’s first ‘Horseshoe Hotel’ on Taihu Lake.
