15 Oct: The National Disaster Mitigation Agency issued a tsunami warning for northern areas of Indonesia after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines on Tuesday.
“The tsunami movement map and the time has been issued,” spokesman of BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said, as quoted by the state-run Antara news agency. “Some Philippines regions may be [affected].”
Sutopo said that a tsunami may affect the areas around Jayapura, Manado, Patani, Sorong and Tarakan. He did not, however, expect significant wave height.
He advised people in the potentially affected areas to remain calm and stay clear of thr coast.
At least 20 people have died after an earthquake hit the central Philippines at 11:12 a.m. The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a depth of 56 kilometers.
