Italian strike leads to flight cancellations and delays
Passengers are urged to check their flight status as flights to and from Italy are disrupted due to a strike by air traffic controllers.
The industrial action by Italian Air Transport Workers is scheduled to last from 12pm until 4pm today.
It forms part of a general strike across Italy that has also affected tourists travelling by train, ferries and local transport.
British Airways said some flights may depart earlier than scheduled and urged passengers to check their flight status.
The airline said on its website: “We are monitoring the situation closely and may need to change some of our flight times to depart earlier than scheduled.
“If you are due to travel please regularly check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport as your flight time may be brought forward.”
Ryanair said it had been forced to cancel or amend various flights and added that the strike was likely to affect flights overflying Italy so further flight delays and cancellations were expected.
