6.0 earthquake struck Thailand just after 6 pm local time (1100 GMT), around 27 kilometers (17 miles) from the mountainous northern city of Chiang Rai.
The earthquake caused some damage to buildings, smashing windows and cracking walls. Minor damage to provincial roads and Buddhist temples.
The airport in Chiang Rai evacuated people from the airport terminal, where display signs and pieces of the ceiling fell. There was no damage to the runway or flight disruptions.
The quake was felt in Bangkok and in neighboring Myanmar.
No casualties have been reported.
